Role Profile:

The Health & Safety Manager for Logistics is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining robust Health & Safety (H&S) standards across all warehouses, fleet operations , fulfilment, and logistics operations. The position ensures that all Logistics activities comply with legal requirements, company policies, and industry best practices. The role leads accident prevention strategies, drives continuous safety improvements, and supports operational leaders in creating a strong safety culture throughout the facility.

The below Key Performance Areas include but are not limited to:

Safety Governance & Compliance

  • Lead the implementation of the H&S Annual Plan within Logistics Operations, ensuring all operational outputs are completed on time and to the required standard.
  • Maintain full compliance with regulatory requirements, audit standards, and internal H&S management systems for warehousing and logistics operations.
  • Conduct scheduled H&S Reviews and Fire Risk Assessments specifically tailored to DC operations, including receiving, picking, packing, dispatch, yard management, MHE (material handling equipment) and fleet use.

 

Incident Management & Investigation

  • Conduct thorough investigations for all accidents, near misses, and unsafe acts/conditions, performing root cause analysis and developing site-specific corrective action plans.
  • Produce detailed and timely investigation reports using approved templates and documentation.
  • Track the completion and effectiveness of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

 

Operational Safety Leadership

  • Drive safe systems of work across logistics processes including racking safety, vehicle safety, equipment maintenance, hazardous materials handling, automation systems, PPE usage, traffic management, and contractor activity.
  • Partner with Logistics Operations, Facilities, Engineering, and HR teams to ensure all safety measures are integrated into daily tasks and new operational initiatives.

 

Create Training & Safety Culture

  • Deliver H&S training modules for Logistics teams including MHE training awareness, manual handling, emergency response, fire safety, safe driving and task‑specific risk controls.
  • Support the development of training content that reflects operational needs, site hazards, and new equipment or processes.
  • Promote safety engagement through toolbox talks, committee meetings, and proactive coaching.

 

Risk Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead risk assessments for all warehouse activities, fleet activities, projects, new equipment, and layout changes.
  • Support DC leadership with the implementation of safety improvement projects, behavioural safety programmes, and DC-specific safety campaigns.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the company’s H&S Management System with insights from DC operations.

Knowledge

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Preferable to hold HSE Dip / NVQ (or working towards) or other H&S specific qualifications including
  • Fire Safety
  • Construction Safety
  • Food Safety
  • Business Auditing 

Experience

  • Min 2 years’ experience of H&S within a logistics operation / multi-site environment
  • Track record of policy / business systems development
  • Experienced H&S Trainer
